Are there any war veterans I can talk to about their experience?

My answer to Are there any war veterans I can talk to about their experience?

Answer by Ken Larson:

If you are a war veteran you will have better luck than if you are not.

Most combats veterans know that someone who has not been there cannot possibly understand the horrors of war, so why make the emotional investment? I only discuss the details with someone I know has been through it and I can tell if they are honest in very few minutes.

There is also a big communications gap in the last 15 years between those who have been to war and those who have not. Only 1% of the American population has involved.

I am not suggesting you do not try. The New York Times article below conveys some interviews that illustrate my above point and the attitudes that prevail among them. 30% of my volunteer work clients are returning veterans. I know them.
