My answer to What skiIls do I need to start a blog?

Answer by Ken Larson:

Consider the theme for your blog, the topics you wish to write about to support it and the audience you wish to attract with your writing.

After over a decade of blogging I have also learned that if one is to write about one’s profession or work, one should keep one’s personal opinions on politics and similar topics out of the dialogue. Use another blog to convey those matters.

I regularly write in two different blogs.

  • A professional blog for small business offering help, guidance and assistance to small enterprises and startups.
  • A personal blog offering my opinions on world events, politics and similar matters.

My blog traffic stats show my professional blog receives far more traffic than my personal blog.

Conclusion: People want my help more than they want my opinion.
