My answer to What activities or tasks can generalists do best?
Answer by Ken Larson:
Experienced generalists have had experience in multiple disciplines. They therefor understand the relationship between company business functions, as well as the functions themselves.
They are particularly suited as process and systems thinkers, facilitators, procedural specialists or contractual functions that involve evaluating the risks of a business deal or a company commitment that involves a broad spectrum view.
Generalists are not stove pipe thinkers. Most top executives either spring from generalist roles or grown into generalist thinking in order to succeed.
