My answer to What are combat veterans thoughts on the game insurgency?

Answer by Ken Larson:

Weapons simulation within the military is a valuable and cost saving training tool – to point.

Commercial gaming emulating combat is worthless. Like movies and other forms military knockoffs they are designed for entertainment and have no relationship to the real thing.

Neither of the above cannot replicate war. War is not entertainment, nor can it be totally replicated by simulation or gaming. The sights, the smells, the horror of death, disfigurement and destruction in war are reality one must experience to understand totally.

Very few who have been there wish to discuss it with someone who has not. Attempting to do so is a non-productive exercise and a one-way emotional street so why expend the effort?
